Alpina Watches International was founded in 1883 by Gottlieb Hauser in Plan – les – Ouates, Geneva, Switzerland. This company was founded by the same man who founded the Swiss Watchmakers Corporation (“Union Horlogère Suisse”). The company was very successful from the very beginning because it attracted a large number of watchmakers whose aim was to join in order to purchase watch components and then organize their own manufacturing. The main purpose of the Union Horlogère which was part of the Association, was to sell high quality watches under the Alpina brand. The new concept was very successfully from the beginning. Their major aim was to associate themselves with qualified manufactures and create their own watches and enrich the distribution network.
The quartz crises struck violently in the seventies and the Swiss watch – industry had to deal with the new situation. Alpina found herself powerless in front of the spreading emerge of electronic watches. In order to overcome this, many major companies united, but Alpina confronted the situation alone and without succeeding. For the next years, Alpina tried many solutions, but the most important ones were in 1972 when the brand was incorporated with German investors and in 2002 it was took on by Frederique Constant SA and Alpina watches were to be found on the markets all over the world.
The model Alpina Geneve was released to mark the 125th anniversary and to present a new pattern completely developed in their own workshops. Alpina Geneve has got its inspiration from the well – known Extreme Avalanche Regulator but it is provided with its own different features like: a smaller case designed to fit perfectly the dial, an automatic AL – 950 regulator caliber beating at 28,800 vib/h created so that it could offer a 48 – hour power reserve.
From a mix of technical complexities and sport particularities, Alpina Geneva managed to realize not a wrist watch, but a timepiece, and probably one of the most uttermost creations in history. What makes Alpina Geneve even more unique is the fact that this model is produced in limited edition, you can find only 18 pieces, and the price is about $50.000. This new wrist watch – Alpina Geneve – has the honour to be among other luxurious watches and participate at this year`s edition of Baselworld.

These watches are a great buy for someone that loves a high quality watch, but doesn’t want to spend $10k.
