Epos Grande Date Verticale

Posted under Epos

Always a delightful presence at the Baselworld events over the years, the famous brand of watches Epos has done more than enough to revolutionize and make better the watch manufacturing industry, with its modern and sober designs and its ever-increasing complicated mechanisms. This brand is no new-comer in this industry of watch manufacturing as its tradition dates back to 1925, the year when James Aubert, who previously had worked for the famous Valjoux and Landeron companies, decided it was time to start its own company of watch manufacturing. An idea which would soon pay off as the first timepieces introduced on the market by Epos were the full embodiment of technical engineering comprised in sophisticated designs.

The year 2009 was yet another year of novelty for this brand, as its famous collection Sophistiquee made room for another rightful member, the new Epos Grande Date Verticale Watch, a timepiece that embraces the same elegant silvery-black design that this brand has familiarized us with.

The element of originality comes from the position of the date, which as opposed to most of the watches where it is located at the 3 o’clock position; this has found its spot near the 9 o’clock and it’s displayed vertically. To get even a more revolutionary design, the people from Epos have placed the crown unconventionally at the 12 o’clock position, leaving the lateral sides of the bezel undisturbed.

The design is exquisitely refined and it features materials such as stainless steel for the case and black or silver guilloche for the dial. Also, to complete this allure of sophistication given by the case and the dial, the designers from Epos have decided to go for a black leather strap, to guarantee a discreet and sophisticated design.

The dial of the new Epos Grande Date Verticale Watch provides both Arabic numeral and Roman numeral indications for the hours, hour and minute indicators, while the function for the seconds is displayed separately on a sub-dial located at the 3 ‘clock position. The dial has two specifications inscribed, one for the name of the watch at 12 o’clock, and the other for the name of the brand in the exact opposite position, at 6 o’clock.

The mechanism is defined as a manually-wound movement- EPOS GDV, visible through the sapphire crystal case back and it can provide a generous 50 meter water resistance. Also, this mechanism provides the best reliability in terms of time keeping and was declared amongst the best movements presented at Baselworld 2009.

The new Epos Grande Date Verticale Watch is available on a black alligator strap, secured with a stainless steel folding clasp.
