Girard – Perregaux Monte – Carlo 1973 Flyback Chronograph Watch is created in such a manner that even if you take a little glance at it you can feel the atmosphere of Monte Carlo in 1973. It is so rich in history that you can almost see in front of your eyes the scenery from those times and people dressed in clothes specific for those times and even be surrounded by the excited atmosphere. When reliving all those moments you realize that at the time being no one was aware of the fact that history was making and they were all enjoying themselves.
Dressed in their best clothes and driving high – powered cars, they were all spectators and they were waiting with their breaths held in anticipation to see what is going to happen. All these moments were surprised in the 1973 all along the French Riviera. The place was well – known among the sport lovers and since 1911 this placed managed to attract the greatest drivers world widely.
The watch was created in order to celebrate a particular race, one that has a major importance. It was the 42nd edition of the Monte Carlo Rally when the audience gathered there witnessed history without even realizing it: they were all expecting for the great end and see who was the winner when something great was going through their eyes: the duel between Jean – Claude Andruet and Ove Andersson. The final was huge and the people present there noticed that Jean – Claude Andruet and Mademoiselle “Biche” were the winners at the wheel of their Alpine Renault A110 nr.18. It was the first time in the rally`s history when a woman was a co – winner.
Today, in order to give a tribute to these remarkable people in our lives who managed to write history, and to mark the brand`s association with the Monte Carlo Historic Rally, Girard – Perregaux is presenting us their new creation – Fly – Back Chronograph. The design in made so that those who love sports especially racing could be attracted to it from the moment they take the first look at it. The traditional fly – back function: stop – reset – start has been changed into a single press of the push – piece. On top of these functions any sports lover would like the Monte Carlo 1973 to be equipped with a tachymeter scale, which it has and it is also executed in bezel allowing the user to calculate the speed of a body in motion.
The whole design is not created to be stunning, but there are the little touches that make it an instant classic: the sapphire “Box” crystal, the dial which is illuminated by a blue highlight but without making it look too much and last but not least the whole style which reminds of the 1970s. The strap is of black alligator and it is in perfect match with the inscription “Monte Carlo 1973” and the case – back which is engraved with the winners` number plate, the names of the car and its drivers.
Girard – Perregaux designed this watch different from other ones that can be found on market, not by the way in which it was created as a whole, but by the fact that the watch itself recalls of great moments in history and it itself is an item of history as well.
