Grönefeld GTM

Posted under Watch News

One hell of a debut, this could only begin to sum up the launch of the new brand Grönefeld in the watch-making industry worldwide. This is how, by creating nothing less than the most complicated wristwatch ever built in Netherlands, the 303-Grönefeld GTM06 the watchmaker Grönefeld earned his prestige.

Even an apparently newcomer on the watch-making market, Grönefeld has a family heritage of nearly a hundred year. The brand’s story has begun in the ancient Oldenzaal town from Netherlands, where Joseph Grönefeld has started, in 1912 his watchmaker career initiating its small dynasty of extremely talented watchmakers who carried onward his family history.

Grönefeld GTM, a Tourbillon Minute Repeater, maybe one of the most coveted and luxurious timepieces ever built, was created by the Grönefeld brothers after four years of development and research following extensive trainings in Switzerland.

Due to the musical nature of the mechanism, the timepiece combines a tourbillon regulator and miniature cathedral gongs and hammers to mark the hours, quarters or minutes depending on the client’s desire.

The difference between GTM-06 and other repeater wrist watches lies in a significant number of details. Because of its forceful bodylines is easily understood that it is a man’s watch, but behind the massif design hides another reason: the case requires volume to be able to provide a pure full sound. The case’s outlines are also conveyed by the lugs towards the galuchat special strap. To keep the case’s resonance unaltered, the lugs are channeled by using custom made micromachining techniques. The Grönefeld GTM-06 uses a cathedral-type gong capable of making the fullest tone achievable.

Grönefeld worldwide is regarded as the epitome of luxury and this handprint goes up to GTM-06’s presentation box, an exquisite, hand polished, black piano lacquer box, containing 2 shelves, first of them contains the watch’s leather lined tray, a leather bound instructions-book, the guarantee certificate, beneath it there’s an elegant ventilated cigars tray. One shall be surprised to discover a secret drawer which hides a Dupont (Davidoff) black lacquer lighter and 2 cigar cutters, after pushing the engraved aircraft with the brand’s logo.

Especially designed for a very exclusivist clientele, GTM requires 6 month of delicate work and dedication to be constructed, assembled and regulated, no wonder there is made only in a limited edition of only 10 gold models (325,000 €) and another 10 platinum pieces (385,000 €).
