Rudis Sylva Romain Gillet

     In the in the early19th century, on the Plateau of Jurua the Gillet watchmakers dynasty had begun and up to this day it has been an icon of quality and performance.

     Inspired by 1850s tourbillon watches experimental tests Romain Gillet perfected an innovative regulating system and created the resonant double regulator custom made since for Rudis Sylva.  This innovative mechanism is able to provide a flawless level of precision, not only due to its capacity of transmitting the oscillatory energy of the 2 balances but also due to the spring system which connects the tourbillon unites. This timepiece features an exceptionally complex mechanism, its tourbillons have both aesthetic and functional purposes, embellished with black jewels and titanium screws they function within the elegant lines of a nonetheless a very classy décor. The exceptional complexity of the ball bearings was developed in order to ensure flawless balances harmony. Every component of this fascinating timepiece was custom made by a traditional watchmaker, up to the hand-made Rudis Sylva’ chamfers.

     The aim of  Rudis Sylva was to mark its debut in the Haute Horologerie by introducing an innovative musical-box type, chiming concept. The ancient name of the Jura Mountain – Rauracie, inspired the case melody –Raurescien.  Sliding a secret bolt, placed at the case bottom enables the chime to be wounded. At its maximum wound, the melody will sound at the following 4 hourly strikes. The optional personalizing of timepiece’s melody rests in the hands of the buyer.

     The hand-made guilloche, created in Georges Brodbeck’s workshop is placed on the plate below the regulator and on the minute and hour indicators over the dial.  The craftsman has highlighted the dial by creating a symphony of gradually increasing rounded angles and by subtly playing with the intellectualized detail. The rounded-triangular design touches require lines to create a perfect transition at 120 degrees and moreover three tool movements per pyramid to achieve this.

     The regulating unit’s true luxury can be captured in the filigree hand applied guilloche and in the plate below the regulator embellished with the so-called: “clous de Paris” one of the many surprises of Sylva. The black or brown leather strap is carefully matched with precious materials for the case: gold and platinum which make a direct statement about the exclusivist clientele and the craftsmanship of the watchmaker.
