Ulysse Nardin Moonstruck

Posted under Ulysse

Ulysse Nardin has elaborated another innovative astronomical timepiece based on Dr. Ludwig Oechslin’s distinctive concept, no more than seventeen years after the conclusion of the historical astronomical “Trilogy of Time”.

The system of Sun, Earth and Moon is the core of Dr. Ludwig Oechslin’s concept, which focuses on the scientifically precise representation of the moon phase as well as the global influence of lunar and solar gravitation causing the ebb and flow of the tides.

The movement of two rotating discs is combined in one display and the moon phase indication is so accurate that more than100, 000 years are needed before it shows a full moon instead of a new moon, or the other way around. The Ulysse Nardin Moonstruck reproduces both the seeming movement of the Sun around the globe and the rotation of the Moon around the Earth. Another disc, rotating once ever 24 hours shows the movement of the Sun around the globe which allows establishing the present moon phase with regard to any site worldwide.

This innovative mechanical wristwatch, the Ulysse Nardin Moonstruck also illustrates on a global scale the dynamics of tides, which depend upon gravitational effects of the Moon and Sun. It also shows the influences of the Moon and Sun which cause spring tides.

The Ulysse Nardin Moonstruck is also very practical when travelling. It includes a pointer calendar and also a quick setting device which enables you to adjust the hour hand according to the desired time zone. To do that you only need to press the pushers plus and minus (they are located at 2 and 4 o’clock).

Developed by Ulysse Nardin, the Moonstruck watch is available in limited edition. There are 500 pieces in platinum and another 500 pieces in 18ct. red gold .
