UrWerk UR 202 Turbine Automatic

Posted under Urwerk

Ur Werk famous for its contemporary watch making has added a new time keeping sensation in the form of Ur-202 turbine automatic watch. The patented revolving satellite has been incorporated into this watch. The new innovative winding system that is regulated by compressed air has been fitted into this marvelous time piece. A choice of white and red gold, black platinum has been used in the watch case. A mirror plated ‘carousel’ is used for the dial. For the first time in the history of wrist watch making the winding rate is regulated by the principle of fluid dynamics. The technology was used by the watch makers of the 18th century in chiming clocks.

The automatic winding of the Ur-202 has used the principle of air friction to control the winding. The rotating vane of the past has been replaced by the cutting edge miniature twin turbine and is accommodated through air compressors. The selector position is variable whereas the turbines spin freely in normal activity. And in vigorous activity the winding rate is reduced by 35% due to the air pressure generated by the turbines and in extreme activity the rotor and the turbines are blocked Ur Werk UR 202 Turbine Automatic is the first watch to incorporate the theory of fluid dynamics in watch making.

The Ur-202 has incorporated the revolving satellite complication that shows the time with the help of telescopic minute hands. These telescopic hands operate through orbiting and revolving satellites. The specialty of this time machine is that the minute hands adjust their length to the minute markings; 0-14, 15-44 and 45-60. The important feature of Ur-202 lies in its ‘carousel’. The rotation of the hour satellite and the telescopic minute hands is controlled by this mechanism. The ‘carousel’ is a patented item. The length of the minute hands is controlled by the high precision transporters. Each minute hand is controlled by one transporter.

The transporter is aligned in such a way that, one end of the transporter follows the path of the minute indication and the other end control the length of the minute hand. The transporters facilitate the telescopic hands to adjust their length as they follow the minute’s scale vector. The cam’s shape has been divided into 380 points to make the minute hand extend and retract to the desired length. A winding rotor is coupled with the twin turbines that act as shock absorbers. The sharp movements of the rotor are cushioned by the turbines in normal activity.
