The Swiss watch-making brand of Urwerk was established quite recently in 1995 by two brothers and a passionate designer, who wanted to create a distinctive approach to watch manufacturing, one based on irresistible design and powerful technical performance. The designs proposed by Martin Frei are simply viewed as masterpieces, as this artist uses his imagination in ways never seen before and its creations are not only successful, but also envied worldwide. The prestige of this brand is being built little by little, the brand already gaining a reputation for selling expensive, luxurious timepieces equipped with flawless mechanisms and displaying exquisite contemporary designs.
Just as creative as the designs they propose, the name of the brand has an interesting story as well. The name is inspired by Ur, the Sumerial city where time was measured with the help of giant sub-dials more than 6000 years ago and the verb “werk” which is the German equivalent of to work.
Although established in 1995, Urwerk introduced its first two models two years later, in 1997 and ever since then the brand continues to release amazing timepieces with futuristic designs and upgraded technical movements. The Urwerk UR-103 Watch was first released in 2003 and it presented a visionary approach to watch manufacturing. An extension of the model was presented in 2009 in the manufacturing of the new UR103t (Tarantula).
The Urwerk UR-103 Watch features an exquisitely designed case crafted from either white gold or red gold. Although these two materials are the most common, the watch is also available in two limited editions featuring platinum or black PE-CVD coated platinum. The case measures 50 mm x 36 mm in diameter and it has a thickness of 13.5 mm. Massive indeed, the case justifies the amazing technical mechanism equipping this watch and the powerful and interesting display of the main functions of the watch.
The futuristic dial definitely represents the work of an artist as it displays a unique appearance that’s worth all the money. The dial of the new Urwerk UR-103 Watch bases its appeal on an orbital satellite complication where the time is being pointed through orbiting hour satellites passing the arch of the minutes, located in the lower part of the dial. In the manufacturing of this unconventional display the designers have chosen to use titanium and for a refined look, they have employed yellow-green detailing to express the main information from the dial. The new Urwerk UR-103 Watch makes use of a Control Board that provides a chrono meter with dual 15 minutes and seconds dial and a power reserve indicator.
The new Urwerk UR-103 Watch works on a manual winding movement based on a Caliber 3.03 and it can provide 43 hours of power reserve.
The contemporary design of the new Urwerk UR-103 Watch comes completed by the classy and elegant strap crafted from alligator leather that goes equipped with a folding clasp usually crafted from titanium.
